Differences, Advantages And Disadvantages Between Copper Wire And Aluminum Wire

Dec 24, 2021

Color difference: the color of copper wire is purplish red, and the color of aluminum wire is gray white.

Resistance difference: the resistance of copper wire is smaller than that of aluminum, and the conductivity of copper wire is better.

Density difference: the density of copper wire is higher than that of aluminum wire, and the copper wire is heavier.

Advantages of copper wire:

The resistance of copper wire is small, and the resistivity of copper wire cable is about 1.68 times lower than that of aluminum wire cable, so the conductivity and thermal conductivity of copper wire are better than that of aluminum wire, and the electrical loss is relatively low.

Good ductility of copper wire: the ductility of copper alloy is 20 ~ 40%, that of electrical copper is more than 30%, and that of aluminum alloy is only 18%.

Fatigue resistance: aluminum is easy to break after repeated bending, while copper is not easy to be folded. In terms of elastic index, copper wire is about 1.7 ~ 1.8 times higher than aluminum wire.

Good stability and corrosion resistance: copper wire has oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance and longer service life, while aluminum wire is easy to be oxidized and corroded.

The maximum safe energizing current of copper wire is higher than that of aluminum wire.

Disadvantages of copper wire:

Many advantages are integrated, so the disadvantage of copper wire is its high price.
